We began our process by thinking of three main ideas,
Here are some of the potential plot overviews of those ideas:
The Box:
A teenage girl is washing the dishes when the doorbell rings. She sees no one at first, but then the camera pans down to reveal a cardboard box which has been delivered. She assumes that its for her roommate, but when it starts making strange noises, she decides to open it.
However we thought, the box is a cool idea but it needs to play more relevance in the opener, we would maybe have to fix that by making a ghost come out of the box.
The solution to the other problem has caused a new problem, creating a ghost isn’t easy, and to create one thats realistic is near impossible.
Abandoned Manor:
Two teens arrive at a mansion with a “FOR RENT” sign out front. They are looking for a flat to rent. The mansion is old and run down, and appears abandoned. As they get closer to the front door of the mansion, they hear a noise, but choose to go in. They look around the house, and as they get to the final room, they look inside and find dead bodies.
Finding an abandoned looking mansion which will let us film for several hours, possibly over several days, is going to be hard. We will have to start location scout early on, and consider Idea 1 or 3 if we cannot find a mansion.
Additionally, this idea will work best if there is a real estate agent/landlord showing the teens around the house. However, we don’t have easy access to any actors aside from us that would be a convenient choice.
Would need to alter the idea to work without a landlord, or find someone and refine the plan so it could all be shot on a single day.
The Bach:
A teenage girl arrives at the family beach house to stay the night as a bit of alone time. When she arrives the taps begin mysteriously turning on, and the lights begin to flicker. She tries to leave but it is too late, she is trapped and the front door will not open. She falls to the ground and is pulled into darkness by an unrevealed supernatural spirit as it cuts to black and the title card appears.
We need to re-think the motive for going towards the end of the hallway, smoke/haze isn’t good enough. Instead a flickering light would be more suitable.
Additionally, we need to re-think the defensive weapons part of the initial concept. Having a room labelled for ‘defence weapons’ and then only getting a bat doesn’t work.
Also, we want to use a grandfather clock, and Asher’s house (which we may use) doesn’t have one in it, to fix this we would have to use Stock footage (either filmed at a different location, or from the internet).
The house also does not have sliding doors, so maybe moving locations will work better.
We decided to go with this idea,
however we will need to make many changes to the location in order for this idea to be more suitable.
