Here is a summary of the sound/music selection process, we thought could be suitable for our film.
There is more information about the music choice and its effects in regard to our completed edit under music post, and sound design post, in post - production.
We used a selection of diegetic sounds such as the tap running and typing sounds to enhance the thriller themes and storyline of our film. The diegetic sounds are important to our storyline as they add meaning to the plot and help the audience to follow along.

Our first song choice consists of extracts of ‘Toccata And Fugue In D Minor, BWV 565’ from Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ to match the animation on the TV at the start. This song and scene from Fantasia fits the thriller genre, as it is in a minor key, making it seem unwelcoming and eerie.
Our Second song we chose for the end scene was ‘Goodnight, My Beautiful’ By Russ Morgan and His Orchestra. We chose this song as we did not want to use classic horror music such as screeching violins, we wanted to explore using different styles of music to create meaning to our film. We wanted our film to be unsettling and suspenseful, therefore we chose this song as it had a creepy, vintage feel to it.
Initially for the ending scene we greatly struggled to find a fitting song to play when the record player turned on. We found that a lot of songs were not creepy enough, making our film not overly thrilling. We were determined to not use classic horror music, and to find a song that was fitting to our Invisible Man storyline.

We decided on using the song ‘Breathe (In the Air)’ by Pink Floyd, as it was creepy, distorted and had fitting lyrics. Our initial plan was to sync up the hallway running scene with the lyrics “Run, Rabbit Run” to create meaning to our opening scene. Unfortunately, we decided this song was not thrilling enough and decided to move on.
We decided to look for other options, and came across a playlist that was constructed of songs that scientifically emulated the feelings of dementia. This playlist felt eerie and familiar, yet unknown. This is where we discovered the song ‘Goodnight, My Beautiful.’ We thought this song would be a great fit for our film, as it seemed mysterious and leaves the viewer curious as to what happens next in the film.
However, we will make many changes and come up with new ideas about music/sound when it comes around to editing in post - production.
