Here is the details and concepts surrounding our film:
Title: "The Bach" - however it's not set in a Bach anymore, this is more of a temporary name.
Location: Asher's house in Herne Bay
Character: Sam - played by myself
Length: We have to fit our film in a 2 minute time period
Filming Times: Friday the 19th of May, and Friday the 26th. This allows us to film on two Fridays and we will go straight to Asher's house once school finishes (3.15). However if necessary, we will film an additional night.
Due date: The date for our film to be finished is the 28th June
Target Audience:
Our filmed is aimed at an audience who enjoys the thriller genre, with its elements of surprise, mystery. More specifically the wide range of ages from 13-30.
We wanted to make our film easy to follow so it can apply to multiple audiences. We added traditional aspects of thriller to really ensure we execute the genre right.
This is a an effective target audience because it’s not too particular and means our film is open to anyone that enjoys the thriller genre
Our thriller conventions:
Tensions - We are aiming to create tensions but including mysterious paranormal activity, and a build up to the climax to the end of the film where the character directly encounters the presence.
Suspense - We want to create suspense, which is vital for a thriller film. It will make the audience feel like they are within the film, and it creates a more enjoyable experience for the audience.
Character dynamics - In order to bring in an audience of people who enjoy the thriller genre, we want to stick to the classic two character dynamic. This will make the character Sam feel even more isolated and alone, and the audience can follow the protagonist and antagonist duo.
Sound/music - The contribution of sound can really create a certain atmosphere for films. We want the music to make the film appear for unsettling and and it is vital for creating tension.
Practicalities of shooting:
Time - We can never underestimate how much the we have for filming, due to setting up and getting the best shots we can time is going to go by quickly and we will want to finish filming as soon as possible. Another time issue we will have to face is the set up of the camera. We have access to a high level camera, often used in cinema, many technical features of the camera will have to be set up and it will slow our filming down.
Location - Due to it being Asher's house, we have to be careful and respectful while filming. We have been informed that there are certain art pieces that cannot be featured in our film.
Our Institutional Conventions:
Establishing Tone - Our opener’s goal is to set the tone for the entire film. This helps shape the audience’s expectations and emotional engagement from the outset. Title Cards - Almost definitely there are opening title cards in films. Our film especially at the end of the opener will have a title card. Title Cards brand the film and help reinforce the tone. Characters - In a opener, the characters are usually introduced. They may play a small or large part in the film. For our film, Sam plays the first victim to the paranormal attacks which sets up the film for the other characters introduced later.

Synopsis:
The opener begins with our main character Sam, home alone, scrolling through social media on her living room couch. Her scrolling is interrupted by the sound of her kitchen tap turning on behind her. Confused, she goes to turn on off the tap and then sits back down again. The tap then turns on again for a second time and this really starts to worry Sam. She turns it off and messages her Dad to get a plumber in, but as she goes to push send her phone switches off. Her confusion is broken by the sound of the record player turning on and the lights flickering in the living room. As well as that, the fire and chess pieces start to move around. Petrified, Sam rushes to the front door of her house only to realise it’s stuck and she cannot open it. It finally opens and as she goes to run out she is pulled back by an invisible force.
The front door slams shut and Sam is pulled by her legs around the house. She is dragged into a dark room the door slams shut and the title card appears on screen.
